9/9/17 : "Don't Forget About the Islands"

There is a lot going wrong in our world. In case for some reason you don't get on the internet or read newspapers or watch the news at all, I'm referring mainly to the hurricanes sweeping across the globe right now. This morning the first thing I read was a letter from Tim Duncan, one of the greatest (not to mention most humble and soft-spoken) power forwards in the history of the NBA.

PLEASE CLICK THIS LINK TO READ HIS LETTER.

This gives me hope. Seeing athletes and celebrities put so much money AND effort into making the world a better place makes me believe it can be.

In case you don't know much about Big Fundamental, he is a guaranteed Hall of Famer even though his career highlights are this boring. He wasn't fancy... he was just always good.

8/15/17 : 50 Days of Blogging

I missed a couple days here and there, but golly jang wabbit, 50 days in a row is, like, the best I've ever done! I'm very happy about this!

However, I'm a little sad because it feels like 50 is a big number, and then I realize that a full year is 315 more days. I have no idea what I'm going to be blogging about all those days, buuuuuuuut I have a feeling there will be quite a few more NBA gifs that tell my story of marriage, a few rants here and there, a bunch of my favorite rockin' jams, some super professional-grade pictures taken on my iPhone, and if we're all lucky there will be some posts about what I'm doing with the lottery I win.

Day 43: Tweets of the Day

Here are a few of my favorite tweets from today, whether they be funny, interesting, or sports related. Also, I may be illiterate when it comes to embedding tweets.

We live in interesting times...

Day 38: NBA + Mawwiage

I think that relating funny NBA gifs to mawwiage is becoming one of my favorite things to do. So here's my small, window's view update on married life.

Β

Sometimes, I complain that our AC is always set to 75 because I like it at 72. When I get frustrated because I'm feeling too hot, this is Morgan's solution for me.

Here, you can clearly see me reacting to Morgan telling me she needs to lose weight. "From where?!"

This is exactly how it goes down if I get in bed and haven't brushed my teeth yet.

All in all, marriage is still awesome! We're lovin' it!

Day 37: Lots of Hats

I'm feelin kinda stressed out lately. I think it's cuz I'm tryna wear too many hats. I ran across this picture on Google, and I didn't have to edit it at all! It was kind of crazy to me how much I related to it so perfectly, so I simply had to share it.

Seriously, whoever photoshopped this did an AMAZING job. Also, they are practically living my exact life. ALSO, DeAaron Fox and I have a lot in common. ALSOOO, I think the Miami Heat logo was left to symbolize that the artist is 1) an NBA-ready baller and 2) very attractive and 3) its summer so its hot. I could be wrong, but maybe not!

I wanna go put on that L.A. Zzz's hat now.

Goodnight.

Day 23: Role Models

In 8th grade I remember going to the gym by myself, and shooting over and over the zillion fake-turn around baseline fade away, trying to emulate Kevin Garnett's jumper to the best of my ability. In case you don't know what I mean, just watch this mug:

I hit a big growth spurt that year, so I went into high school about 6' 2" with a decent KG baseline fade away. Before all you haters that have seen my current fade away freak out and make fun of me, let me just say IT WAS DECENT. If I had realized I'd never have a coach that would condone such a shot, I wouldn't have practiced it so much. Nevertheless, I can't do it anymore.

That's life though! You have people you admire, for whatever reasons they may be, and you typically try to be more like them. I was blessed with some good role models--not just KG. He's borderline maniacal.

No, I was blessed with role models like my older brother, my dad, and my grandpa... my older sisters, mom, aunties, and grandmothers, who all taught me different aspects of how to love, how to work hard, how to persevere, and how to be patient.

The way you love your family, your spouse, your friends... its the greatest influence you may ever have! Even though I never got the opportunity to unleash that lethal fade-away, I am given countless opportunities DAILY to love deeper and work harder.

Day 19: Hand-in-Hand

When talking about Christianity, it seems like the description-of and love-for WHO Jesus is should go hand in hand with conversion and a change in lifestyle as we learn to obey Him more. However, if you believe something going "hand-in-hand" means it is simple, then you're probably wrong.

Watch.

The high five has some very complicated nuances that, if missed, can make for some pretty hilarious highlight reels on YouTube. You've got to consider several key elements.

#1

Make eye contact BEFORE reaching out your hand to initiate "the five".

#2

Make sure you clearly have an open hand. It's not rock-paper-scissors.

#3

You must be clear on whether you're "up-high" or "down-low". Don't be Ronny Turiaf.

I'm only scratching the surface here. Anyways, my point is that even with "hand-in-hand" (high fives) there's an order to things. I know this analogy is a stretch, but its way more entertaining than just me talking about it.

Most sermons you hear fall into one of two categories: either they are all about Jesus and who He is/what He has done OR they are about you/what your life should look like as a follower of Jesus. Most people would say these go "hand-in-hand". This means you can't get one without the other, as they are equally important/interchangeable... but if you watched the videos above, you know it is just not that simple.

There absolutely has to be a clear focus on one specific part, and the rest falls together. In the high-five, I believe the key to nailing it is to lock in some good eye contact while yelling "HIGH-FIVE". That's it.

When it comes to Jesus, the key to nailing it is to talk about Jesus' unconditional, unfailing, unchanging, all-encompassing, never-tiring, infinite, personal, indescribably selfless love, and that's it. The lifestyle change, the obedience, will undoubtedly follow.

However, if you have the privilege to talk about Jesus to someone and your main focus is on that lifestyle change and perfect obedience, you have now set an expectation that no human being can ever maintain. You've set them up for failure. They may obey for a time. Shoot, they may obey for a LONG time.

But it's for the wrong reasons. And it's unsustainable.

Last analogy- It's like balancing a broom on your hand. If you look at the bottom of the broomstick, where it's touching your hand, you cannot balance it very long. However, if you look at the top of the broom, way above where the point of contact is, you can balance it til your arm gets tired. Where you put your focus determines your success.

In your mind, and with your words, ALWAYS put your focus on WHO JESUS IS. Plain and simple. The rest will fall into place.

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
— 2 Corinthians 3:!8

Day 9: 356 days to go.

The past few weeks have been the most exciting time for an NBA fan: the offseason.
(Morgan just rolled her eyes)

I'm actually mostly serious. The drama is insane! Players leaving teams, demanding trades, while teams are pulling deals and contracts in the gazillions-of-dollars range out of thin air it seems. It's when every fan thinks they could be a better GM/Coach/Owner than the actual front office of their team.

Morgan went from rolling her eyes, to this.

Morgan went from rolling her eyes, to this.

So anyways, I'm going to share with you some of my favorite NBA gifs, and what they mean to me. So [g]if you're into that kind of thing, enjoy!!
(Even Morgan might laugh at some of these, and she is NOT an NBA fan)

This is Morgan, anytime I start talking about her to someone else.
