Where's the Traction?

I’m just going to start off with some vulnerability and honesty ('cuz this blog is the "Trust Tree"). For the last month or so I have felt worn out. Like a car that is on ice with the accelerator suddenly pinned to the floor and the speedometer quickly reading 100mph. Yet when I look around I’ve only gone a few feet. It only takes a few hours of that 'til I’m out of gas, without a change of scenery.

So this last week I’ve started asking myself the question- What gives my life traction? I often think- Do everything to the best of your ability, to glorify God- but I’m realizing that maybe I’m taking that too literally. I’m trying to do literally everything, and do it all to the best of my ability. I can’t do that!

When I try to do everything I just end up doing a lot of nothing and then when I'm done with that and try to do something I'm too worn out to do anything

However, what I can do is step back and recognize what is vital to the calling God has placed on my life, and do those things to the best of my ability.

So again- What are those things that give my life traction? Right now I’m just thinking on paper… This is my “Refocusing with God” time. The way I see it, I have 3 main priorities right now.

  1. I’m getting married in 8 months! How flippin sweet is that?! So I need to make sure I am doing what I need to do in order to best support Morgan in the planning for not only our wedding, but also for our marriage.
  2. My [music] ministry- God has opened enough doors for me and affirmed me enough times for me to either count this as one of my life’s top priorities or start whale watching…(see the story of Jonah).
  3. I have a full time job! I work as a recruiter for Union College, and while I have that job it is extremely important that I honor and represent God in that position.

I'm learning that life in this case is a lot like driving that car on ice. If you grew up driving on ice (Skol MN Vikings #amirite?) then you know accelerating fast is the worst thing you can do. If you wanna go fast, you have to start slow, gradually accelerating so you don't lose traction. So here I am, stopping for a second, stepping back and refocusing. What is important?

I guess that’s the point of this blog. Lately I've been saying that I seem to have a lot more to say than I can sing in a song. Besides, while I’m working I can’t go and do concerts all the time. I can’t go speak at churches or schools every week. But I can do this. I can share what God is doing in my life from just about anywhere, any time.

So I am going to and I challenge you to do the same! Step back, ask God to reveal to you what will give your life its traction. I'd love to hear how God is working in your life as well so feel to free to comment below, or email me!

Still not sure how everything is going to fit together, but I hope you’ll tag along for the ride and I pray that you’ll be blessed.
